BASICS OF GEOMETRY

PARALLEL LINES- Parallel lines are the lines which never intersect each other if extended further and the distance between them everywhere are always the same.
Here AB∥CD
PROPERTIES OF PARALLEL LINES-
If a transversal is intersecting a pair of parallel lines then the corresponding angles are equal and the alternative angles so formed are also equal.

 (a) Corresponding angles ; The  pair of angles made on the same side of the transversal line and parallel lines are called corresponding angles.
In figure (∠1,∠5), (∠3,∠7), (∠2,∠6),(∠4,∠8) are examples of corresponding angles.
ALTERNATIVE ANGLES- The pair of angles formed by transversals and parallel lines in opposite sides of parallel and transversal lines are called alternative angles.
(∠1,∠8),(∠2,∠7),(∠3,∠6),(∠4,∠5), etc are examples of alternate angles, click for further detail.
